The Witch's Star

The upright five-pointed star, or The Witch's Star, signifies rulership of Higher Mind over the lower elements of Human Nature. It is the symbol of a Mankind whose mind and spirit rule over matter and the five physical senses.

The inverted Pentagram, the Symbol of Baphomet, with the single point buried in the depths of matter, represents the head of a goat. The horns are thrust upward, representing the duality that Mankind is also Beast. The single downward point represents the Spirit submerged and bonded into the material elements.

In either case, the Pentagram is placed within a circle (or two or three) representing a symbol of eternity and totality or unity, and its energy is focused and directed. Traditionally, each of the five points, also called the five angles, has been attributed to the Five Metaphysical Elements of the Ancients: Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Spirit.

While the inverted Pentagram is representative of the Spirit's descent into matter, the upright Pentagram represents the redemption of the Spirit from matter by ruling over it. Each is a graphic portrayal of the nature of Mankind.
